What Is Sciatica?
Sciatica refers to the pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg.
What Are The Symptoms Of Sciatica?
The first symptom of sciatica is a sharp, shooting pain that starts in the lower buttock or lower back and travels down the leg. The pain can vary in severity and may feel like a stabbing or burning sensation.
The second symptom of sciatica is a feeling of numbness or a "pins and needles" sensation in the affected leg or foot.
The third symptom of sciatica is muscle weakness in the foot or leg, which makes it difficult to move or control the affected leg.
Pain that worsens with movement is another symptom of sciatica. Pain often intensifies when coughing, sneezing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
Lastly, pain typically affects one side of the body, although it can occasionally affect both sides.
